Oppo Find X10 Ultra project reportedly put on hold

A well-known Weibo leaker claims Oppo has shelved its camera-focused Find X10 Ultra. No reason was given, though soaring memory prices are one plausible explanation.

Oppo's Find X10 Ultra, expected to be the company's camera-centric flagship, has reportedly been put on hold. According to Digital Chat Station, a Weibo account known for its leaks, the company has suspended the Ultra project. Oppo has not confirmed the claim in any official statement, so for now it should be treated as a rumor.

Oppo recently launched the Find X10 and Find X10 Pro Max in global markets. The Find X10 Ultra, meanwhile, was expected to arrive in the first half of next year as the most camera-focused high-end model in the family. The post did not say why the project was paused, so the reasoning behind the decision remains unknown.

A possible cause: memory prices

Although no reason was given, the first guess that comes to mind is the sharp rise in memory prices. A camera-focused flagship like the Find X10 Ultra might have needed a very high price tag to absorb memory costs. The device's camera hardware is also not cheap, so costs on both the memory and camera sides could have pushed the price up considerably.

That reading rests more on the general state of the market than on the claim itself. Neither Oppo nor Digital Chat Station offered a direct explanation, so the memory-price theory should be taken as a reasonable assumption rather than a confirmed account.

What the phone was expected to offer

Earlier rumors suggested the Find X10 Ultra would carry a 200-megapixel main camera with LOFIC technology. The rear was said to include two periscope telephoto cameras, one of them offering 10x optical zoom, while the front was rumored to have a square-format 100-megapixel selfie camera. Those specs help explain why the model was seen as a camera-first flagship.

The chipset was also a subject of speculation. Oppo was said to be testing a Dimensity 9600 Pro version alongside a Snapdragon variant, though the Snapdragon was described as the more likely choice. Since all of this is rumor, it is unclear what becomes of those hardware plans if the project really is on ice.

Ultra models are having a hard generation

This is not the first Ultra model reported to have dropped off the schedule this generation. The Xiaomi 18 Ultra was earlier said to have been canceled. In today's post, Digital Chat Station also hinted that the Xiaomi 18 Ultra would use Xring O3, the chipset Xiaomi develops in-house. Two different brands' Ultra plans being questioned in the same period is notable.

If the claim proves accurate, the Find X10 Pro Max will remain Oppo's most powerful flagship for now. Whether Oppo will address the matter officially is not yet clear.
