Huawei has officially announced the Pura 90 Plus and opened pre-orders for it in China. The phone will launch on October 28. The company has not yet shared the full specifications, but live images of the device have begun leaking online from demo units on display in retail stores.

The images answer one of the biggest open questions: which processor powers the Pura 90 Plus? According to the information shown on a demo unit's screen, it is the Kirin 9025, which will debut in this model. The leaks also offer the first concrete hints about the software, memory and display resolution.

What the demo unit reveals

The about-phone screen of one demo unit lists the new Kirin 9025 chipset, 12 GB of RAM, a 2848x1276 display resolution, HarmonyOS 7 and the model number LCI-AL00. The Pura 90 Plus will be the first phone to use the Kirin 9025. Other photos show the device's curved edges and the triangular camera island in the Sunset Purple colorway.

In its official announcement today, Huawei confirmed 12 GB of RAM along with 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage options, as well as Dawn Gold, Obsidian Black, Sunset Purple and Snowy White colors. Memory and color choices are therefore now official, while the remaining specifications still rest on leaks and rumors.

What the Kirin 9025 promises

One claim circulating today holds that the Kirin 9025 is an overclocked version of the Kirin 9020. Another source says the Pura 90 Plus delivers a 19 percent overall performance gain over the Pura 80 Pro, which runs on the Kirin 9020.

The same source also claims the Kirin 9025 performs on par with the Kirin 9030S found in the Pura 90 Pro and Pura 90 Pro Max. None of these figures has been confirmed, and how well the claims hold up will only become clear once independent benchmarks are published.

Display and camera expectations

Reports describe a 6.8-inch curved LTPO OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. An earlier leak indicated that the rear would carry a 50-megapixel, 1-inch-type main camera with a variable aperture and an RYYB color filter array.

Those specifications closely resemble the Pura 80 Pro, which also has a 6.8-inch 1276x2848 screen and a 1-inch-type 50-megapixel variable-aperture main camera. The Pura 90 Plus looks set to offer hardware close to the Pura 80 Pro on the display and camera side, with the new chipset as the clear difference.

Pricing and all remaining details will be revealed at the October 28 launch. Until then, the leaked information should be treated with caution, pending Huawei's official statements.
